The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Olivia Dalton:
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles to discuss the extraordinary cooperation between the United States and Europe in dealing with shared international challenges.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield applauded the excellent coordination, including at the United Nations, between the United States and the European Union in responding to Russia’s brutal and unprovoked war on Ukraine. She welcomed the EU’s work to provide essential support to the people of Ukraine, including humanitarian assistance, and they agreed on the need to sustain our ironclad trans-Atlantic unity in the face of Russia’s aggression.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and High Representative Borrell also discussed the many other areas where the United States and European Union are working together to preserve stability, including in the Western Balkans. They agreed to work together to support the people of Syria and ensure the continuation of UN-facilitated cross-border humanitarian aid, on which millions of Syrians depend.
