Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reaffirmed the U.S. strategic partnership with Jordan and conveyed the Biden-Harris Administration’s interest in further expanding our already close cooperation. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield discussed the need for additional donors to provide financial contributions to UNRWA so that it can continue to provide essential services, and also underscored U.S. support for UNRWA’s implementation of necessary reforms. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield mentioned her trip to Zataari Refugee Camp in Jordan last year and underscored the importance of renewing the lifesaving Syria cross-border humanitarian mandate this year. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also thanked Jordan for supporting Ukraine by voting in favor of last week’s General Assembly resolution on humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, on votes in other multilateral fora, and discussed with Minister Safadi recent developments regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
