On behalf of the U.S. Government, I would like to extend our thanks to the facilitator for the successful shepherding of this resolution.
The United States strongly supports the UN Environmental Programme and its critical role in galvanizing global action to solve many of the world’s environmental crises. In fact, Secretary Blinken visited UNEP headquarters in Nairobi just last week where he announced U.S. support for launching negotiations on a global legal instrument on ocean plastic pollution at UNEA 5.2.
