Explanation of Position for the Adoption of the Strengthening Cooperation for Integrated Coastal Zone Management for Achieving Sustainable Development Resolution

AS DELIVERED

On behalf of the U.S. Government, I would like to extend our thanks to the facilitator for the successful shepherding of this resolution.

The United States strongly supports the sustainable use and management of coastal zones and marine ecosystems. In fact, Secretary Blinken visited UNEP headquarters in Nairobi just last week where he announced U.S. support for launching negotiations on a global legal instrument on ocean plastic pollution at UNEA 5.2.

We are pleased to join consensus on this resolution. Regarding references to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, we refer you to our general Explanation of Position delivered on November 18, 2021, to the 76th General Assembly Second Committee session. Thank you.
