AS DELIVERED
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
The United States offers a very simple amendment which reads “reaffirming the commitment to achieve sustainable development in its three dimensions – economic, social, and environmental – in a balanced and integrated manner.” These words should be very well known to everyone in the room as they come directly from the 2030 Agenda. We propose this amendment to safeguard a critical innovation of the 2030 Agenda: that the three dimensions of sustainable development must be addressed holistically and in a comprehensive way – in a “balanced and integrated manner.” The language currently in OP10 does not appropriately capture this important insight and deflects away from a key idea enshrined the Sustainable Development Goals.
The amendment we have put forward draws language directly from paragraph 2 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Declaration to address this concern. We urge Member States to vote in favor of this amendment.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
