Media Advisory: Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield to Speak at U.S.-EU High-Level Roundtable on the Humanitarian Emergency in the Tigray Region
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield will give opening remarks at a virtual high-level roundtable on the humanitarian emergency in the Tigray region of Ethiopia hosted by the United States and the European Union at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, June 10. The event will highlight the enormous humanitarian emergency unfolding in the region, which has the potential of reaching tragic dimensions of human suffering not seen in decades.
The event features presentations by Janez Lenarčič, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Jutta Urpilainen, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, and Samantha Power, Administrator of the United States Agency for Development Aid (USAID) followed by a high-level panel discussion with Mark Lowcock, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, Secretary General Norwegian Refugee Council, and Pramila Patten, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, moderated by CNN International correspondent Nima Elbagir. Jeff Feltman, United States Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, will deliver closing remarks.
