FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, following a U.S.-led effort, the United Nations budget committee significantly reduced the annual peacekeeping budget by over half a billion dollars, forcing the UN to work smarter and more efficiently in delivering its mandates.

“We have an obligation to the American people to show value in the use of their taxpayer dollars,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley. “Just five months into our time here, we’ve already been able to cut over half a billion dollars from the UN peacekeeping budget and we’re only getting started.”

This agreement will also preserve critical UN functions and mechanisms to protect civilians caught in conflict, including many human rights reporting positions.
