Readout of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield congratulated President Nyusi on Mozambique’s successful presidency of the United Nations Security Council. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield affirmed the United States’ commitment to Africa, noting Vice President Harris’ travel to the region and other senior-level visits in 2023 by the First Lady, Treasury Secretary, and Secretary of State.
The Ambassador commended President Nyusi for Mozambique’s role as a peacemaker in internal and regional conflicts and urged him to share these experiences with the international community in pursuit of resolving conflicts in Africa.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her interest in closely coordinating on shared priorities in the Security Council.
