Readout of a Meeting Between Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met virtually this morning with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield raised the United States’ deep concern over the human rights situations in Burma, China, Ethiopia, Venezuela, and Yemen, and the importance of holding accountable those who commit human rights violations and abuses. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated U.S. support for efforts by the Office of the High Commissioner to promote and protect human rights globally, and the importance of independent human rights investigations as critical steps toward accountability, justice, and reconciliation. The two also discussed the United States’ reengagement with the Human Rights Council.
