Readout of a Meeting Between Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Commissioner Julio Borges and Commissioner Leopoldo López

On Monday evening, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met with Venezuelan Interim Government Foreign Affairs Commissioner Julio Borges and Commissioner Leopoldo López. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored U.S. support for a negotiated outcome that leads to free and fair elections in Venezuela. They agreed on the importance of bolstering international consensus in support of a return to democracy in Venezuela through a focus on the humanitarian crisis and the human rights of the Venezuelan people. She shared reflections from her meeting on Sunday with humanitarian organizations providing support to refugees and migrants in Ecuador, and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to support the Venezuelan people.
