Readout of a Meeting between Ambassador Nikki Haley and Yezidi Rights Advocate Ameena Hassan

Ambassador Nikki Haley met with prominent Yezidi rights advocate Ameena Saeed Hassan to discuss the challenges facing Yezidis and other minorities after three years of ISIS occupation and brutality. Ambassador Haley reaffirmed U.S. support for a full, impartial investigation of ISIS atrocities and human rights violations and stressed the importance of psychosocial care for victims and refugees, particularly children. Ambassador Haley and Ms. Hassan, a former member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives who was named by the State Department in 2015 a Hero Acting to End Slavery, also discussed the role of the Iraqi Government and Kurdish Regional Government in ensuring that minority rights and viewpoints are respected.
