Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting on the Forced Deportations of Children from Ukraine

The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Nate Evans:

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with families impacted by Russia’s forced deportations of Ukrainian children and heard their harrowing stories of treatment by Russian forces. In addition to the affected families, the Ambassador met with the Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Ukraine’s Ombudsperson for Human Rights, and local non-governmental organizations. Participants detailed Russia’s continued forcible removal of children. The Ambassador committed to bringing these issues to the forefront at an August 24 UN Security Council meeting. The Ambassador made clear the United States is committed to holding those responsible for these horrors to account.

The United States has determined that members of Russia’s forces and other Russian officials had committed crimes against humanity through the deportation of Ukrainian civilians, including children who have been forcibly separated from their families.
