Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Chadian Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Déby

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today in N’Djamena with Chadian Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Déby.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed appreciation and support for Chad’s role as host to nearly 400,000 new refugees and returnees fleeing violence in the Darfur region of Sudan. The Ambassador underscored the United States’ commitment to working with regional partners to end the violence in Sudan, while also mobilizing support to address the humanitarian impact of the conflict across the region.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the U.S. commitment to supporting an inclusive democratic transition in Chad. The Ambassador also affirmed U.S. support for ECOWAS’ diplomatic efforts to return Niger to constitutional order.
