Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today in New York with Colombian Vice President and Foreign Minister Marta Lucía Ramírez. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked Vice President Ramírez for Colombia’s consistent engagement with the Security Council and its democratic leadership in the region. The two officials discussed the ongoing implementation of the Colombia Peace Accord and the importance of our longstanding bilateral relationship, rooted in a shared commitment to strengthening democracy, the security of our citizens, and economic prosperity. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed condolences and concern over the loss of life in recent protests and welcomed the Government of Colombia’s commitment to investigate reports of police excesses and address any violations of human rights. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the United States’ appreciation for Colombia’s support of a return to democracy in Venezuela and Colombia’s solidarity with and support of the Venezuelan people.
