Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves

U.S. Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves in San Jose, Costa Rica. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Chaves emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Costa Rica bilateral relationship and discussed our shared agenda on democracy, security, migration, and economic prosperity.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked President Chaves for his efforts to ensure asylum seekers – which constitute five percent of Costa Rica’s population – and migrants are treated safely and humanely. She also commended President Chaves for his Administration’s strong condemnation of the Ortega-Murillo regime.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Chaves also discussed Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, shared economic priorities, and the importance of democratic values and institutions.
Lastly, they reaffirmed their continued strong partnership at the United Nations, including on the Human Rights Council and Commission on the Status of Women.
