Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met yesterday with Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in Accra, Ghana. The Ambassador expressed the United States’ appreciation for Ghana’s leadership in hosting the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial and their role in peacekeeping operations globally. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Foreign Minister Botchwey discussed opportunities for cooperation on a range of regional peace and security issues, including providing predictable and sustainable financing for African Union Peace Support Operations. They also discussed the situation in Niger and democratic backsliding across West Africa, as well as the urgency in addressing the conflict in Sudan and ending massacres taking place across Darfur. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked Foreign Minister Botchwey for Ghana’s strong partnership on the Security Council.
