Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met yesterday in Monrovia with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on the margins of Liberia’s inaugural events. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked the president, for Ghana’s partnership on the UN Security Council and leadership on the recent Security Council resolution on UN financing for African Union Peace Operations. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Akufo-Addo discussed efforts to combat democratic backsliding in the region as well as strengthening partnerships to counter violent extremism. The Ambassador and the President also discussed Ghana’s economy and preparations for upcoming elections.
