Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein 

The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Olivia Dalton:    

U.S. Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on February 23. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and FM Hussein discussed the enduring U.S. commitment to a stable, secure, prosperous, and democratic Iraq.  She also stressed the importance of Iraq promptly forming a new government and emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect the human rights of all Iraqi citizens.   Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and FM Hussein also discussed the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the efforts of the United Nations and member states to respond to Russia’s hostile acts. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored U.S. support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, consistent with the principles of the Charter of the United Nation.
