Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Libyan Interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba to discuss the Libyan political process, and the need to maintain forward momentum. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed concern that there is not yet a constitutional basis for timely elections, and emphasized the importance of holding elections on December 24, 2021, as outlined in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which will be a key step to ending a decade of conflict in Libya. Interim Prime Minister Dabaiba welcomed the United States’ re-engagement on Libya and the renewed relationship between the two countries. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Interim Prime Minister Dabaiba shared concerns about the continued presence of foreign forces and mercenaries, and the need for their immediate withdrawal.
