Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Members of Haitian Civil Society

The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the UN Spokesperson Olivia Dalton:

Ahead of the Presidential Delegation’s travel to Haiti this morning, U.S. Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Representative Gregory Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, participated yesterday in a virtual dialogue with civil society representatives in Haiti hosted by U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Michele Sison. The officials heard from diverse civil society representatives about the challenges they are working to address and their vision for the future of Haiti. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed solidarity with the Haitian people and strong support for an inclusive dialogue to restore Haiti’s democratic institutions and advance the Haitian people’s ability to determine their own future. She thanked the civil society representatives for their work defending human rights, fighting corruption, and supporting those in need in Haiti, and she reiterated the United States’ call for all political actors to work collaboratively and inclusively with civil society to find solutions to the many pressing challenges facing Haiti.
