Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with NGOs, UN Officials Responding to the Crisis in Sudan
The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Nate Evans:
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, today ahead of her trip to Chad virtually met with non-governmental organizations and UN partners supporting the Sudanese displaced by the worsening humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield received briefings on the situation and thanked the NGOs and the UN for their tireless work supporting the response. More than 24.7 million people in Sudan are in need of assistance – including 3.6 million people newly displaced.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored that the purpose of her travels is to identify humanitarian needs, meet with Sudanese refugees to directly hear what they witnessed and experienced, and to hold those responsible for atrocities to account.
