Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Prime Minister Mark Brown of the Cook Islands in Rarotonga

The following is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Nate Evans:

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown during the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield congratulated Prime Minister Brown on a successful Leaders Meeting and reiterated the United States’ commitment to continue working with the Pacific Islands Forum. The Ambassador also reaffirmed the United States commitment to strengthening U.S.-Cook Islands relations following the establishment of formal diplomatic relations during the recent U.S.-Pacific Island Forum Summit in Washington, D.C. They discussed opportunities for development and economic cooperation and how the United States can support the priorities set out in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
