Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meetings with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the value of the strategic partnership between the United States and Turkey, our NATO Ally. She discussed her trip to the Turkey-Syria border and announcement of additional U.S. financial assistance for the humanitarian response in Syria and to support Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed appreciation for Turkey’s generosity in hosting millions of refugees from Syria and elsewhere. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu reaffirmed their strong support for maintaining and expanding the UN-authorized border crossings for urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also discussed areas of concern, including human rights, and areas in which Turkey and the United States can strengthen cooperation, including our shared interest in advancing sustainable solutions to regional conflicts.
