Readout of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Foreign Minister Vieira highlighted the strong U.S.-Brazil bilateral relationship, including our cooperation to promote democracy and human rights and address deforestation and the climate crisis. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the strong economic ties between our countries that create good-paying, dignified jobs for Brazilians and Americans alike.
The two discussed issues of regional security, including the situation in Haiti and Venezuela. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield commended Brazil for its efforts to support and integrate hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in Brazil. They also discussed Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and prospects for a just peace grounded in the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty and territorial integrity.
