Readout of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Iraqi President Latif Rashid and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with Iraqi President Latif Rashid and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on the margins of the UN 2023 Water Conference.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked President Rashid for agreeing to implement gas capture projects to achieve zero routine flaring by 2030 and to meet the Global Methane Pledge.
The Ambassador reiterated U.S. commitments to accelerate U.S. efforts to combat Iraq’s water crises that were made at the Higher Coordinating Committee (HCC), in accordance with the 2008 Strategic Framework Agreement for a Relationship of Friendship and Cooperation between the United States of America and the Republic of Iraq (SFA).
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Rashid also discussed the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), which has been an important partner for the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government. They reaffirmed their determination to deepen the strategic relationship across the full range of bilateral issues.
