Readout of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Mozambican Foreign Minister Verónica Macamo

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with the Republic of Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Verónica Macamo to discuss Mozambique’s historic first term on the United Nations Security Council. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her appreciation for Mozambique’s emphasis on issues of peace and security.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Minister Macamo discussed the strong strategic partnership between the United States and Mozambique, which has contributed to regional economic prosperity, health security, and stability. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the U.S. commitment to proactively work with Mozambique to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, including through her work earlier in the day planting mangrove seedlings and picking up trash alongside Mozambican environmental activists.
