Thank you, Chair, and thank you to the CRPD Chair. The United States remains committed to promoting and protecting the human rights of all persons with disabilities.
My delegation is proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Accessibility Steering Committee this year. We have several projects to integrate all persons with disabilities within the UN’s operations and work.
While accessibility measures are taken into account each year the CRPD COSP meets, there are delegates with disabilities whose accessibility needs are not met.
We are working to ensure full participation of all delegates with disabilities in UN meetings, including through an after-hours accessible exit for delegates, as well as a lift in order to deliver remarks from the GA podium.
We also note that further UN staff training is needed to address attitudinal barriers.
