AS DELIVERED
Thank you, Special Envoy, for your efforts to press for dialogue, unhindered humanitarian access, and respect for human rights in Myanmar.
We are deeply troubled by the escalating violence and worsening humanitarian situation. We continue to urge the international community to speak with one voice to condemn the military’s actions and to call on the regime to cease the violence, release all those unjustly detained, address human rights abuses, and restore the path to democracy.
The United States supports ASEAN’s urgent efforts to press the military to implement fully the Five-Point Consensus, including facilitating a visit by the ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar to meet with all stakeholders. We note with concern that the military has been unwilling to engage productively with ASEAN or engage in inclusive dialogue to seek a just and peaceful resolution to the current crisis.
Question: How can Member States press for dialogue, unhindered humanitarian access and respect for human rights in Myanmar?
