AS DELIVERED
Thank you, Special Rapporteur, for your continued work on these important issues.
The United States was proud to co-sponsor Human Rights Council resolution 51/21 on “the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health,” which was adopted on October 7, 2022.
The United States is also proud to be the largest single donor for global health. In 2022, we appropriated over $12 billion in global health programs. We remain committed to bringing an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to roll out the Initiative for Global Vaccine Access (Global VAX) to accelerate global efforts to get COVID-19 shots into arms and enhance international coordination. The United States continues the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis through significant investments in the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Fund.
We will continue to advance health security and pandemic preparedness around the world, including through strengthening and reforming the World Health Organization and building country capacities towards the Global Health Security Agenda target.
Thank you.
