AS DELIVERED
Thank you, Chair, and thank you, Special Rapporteur Quinn.
The United States remains dedicated to advancing safety, inclusion, and respect for the human rights of persons with disabilities in all stages of crisis and conflict prevention, response, and recovery.
In 2019, we were pleased to co-sponsor the groundbreaking UN Security Council Resolution 2475, which was adopted unanimously, and which emphasized the need to protect civilians, including persons with disabilities, in situations of armed conflict.
The United States supports work at the intersection of Women, Peace, and Security and disability rights. This work aims to increase the technical capacity of women with disabilities to build and lead representative initiatives that seek equal treatment under the law.
Special Rapporteur Quinn, how can Member States be accountable for ensuring persons with disabilities participate equitably in the initiatives implemented and negotiated throughout the peace-conflict continuum?
