Thank you. We thank Executive Director Bahous for her tireless efforts since her appointment just one year ago.

As President Biden stated, no one’s rights should be denied because of their gender. The work of UN Women is all the more critical today as we stare at the possibility of dramatic backsliding in women’s progress globally. The United States stands with UN Women as you advance gender equality, including women’s leadership and political participation; women’s roles in peace and security; and women’s economic empowerment.

The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the fragility of gains previously made towards women’s equality. How can UN Women help consolidate progress and prevent further backsliding in women’s advancement globally?
