AS DELIVERED
Mr. Chairman, thank you for putting forward this report for adoption.
The United States would like to express appreciation for the Committee on Information’s work, and for the Department of Global Communications’ (DGC) efforts to combat misinformation and disinformation on COVID-19 and to promote safe and effective vaccines. Now, more than ever, the work of the DGC is crucial and important.
The United States supports the DGC’s continued work in the information space to counter disinformation and misinformation, encourage accurate scientifically-sound communications to address vaccine hesitancy, and highlight ways the world can build back better and greener.
The UN and the DGC advance dialogue and communication that are critical to our mutual interests, whether that is defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, combatting climate change, preventing the spread and use of nuclear weapons, supporting peacekeeping and peacemaking efforts, or delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance.
We thank the chair and the text facilitator for managing the negotiations on these resolutions effectively and seeking compromise. And we thank the Secretariat for their advice and counsel.
Thank you.
