AS DELIVERED

We welcome the United Nation’s $42 million Plan of Action to enable relief efforts for the Cuban people whose communities were devastated by the storm. We would like to thank the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for their work in supporting the victims of the storm.

On Tuesday, October 18, we announced our plan, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, to provide $2 million in funding for emergency relief to those in need in Cuba.

This funding is being provided to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, a trusted, independent organization already operating in the affected areas to deliver this humanitarian assistance directly to the Cuban people.

Concurrently, the advancement of democracy and respect for human rights remains at the core of our policy efforts toward Cuba.

The United States is providing critical humanitarian aid to the Cuban communities affected, and we will continue to seek ways to provide meaningful support to the Cuban people.
