Remarks by Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield at the UN Security Council Stakeout on the Attack on UN Peacekeepers in Mali

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield
U.S. Representative to the United Nations

AS DELIVERED

Let me just say I was on a video conference this morning for the Seoul Ministerial on peacekeeping safety, and I was so sad to learn that we just lost peacekeepers in Mali. And I want to convey my deepest condolences to the people of Togo and to the families and loved ones of those who were killed in a horrific IED attack that took place today. The United States is appalled by this attack and condemn it in the strongest possible terms. And we mourn the losses of those peacekeepers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and we pray those injured also recover. But we also must hold those responsible accountable. And I will continue to work in my role as a member of the Security Council to push for every effort to ensure that peacekeepers are safe in their efforts to do the work that they do to protect citizens. Thank you.
