Second Committee Statement on Agenda Item 19 “Strengthening cooperation for integrated coastal zone management for achieving sustainable development”

AS DELIVERED

Thank you, Mr. Chair.

While we recognize the importance of integrated coastal zone management to some countries, the subject does not warrant a biennial resolution in an already over-burdened Second Committee agenda. The issue is better considered under existing resolutions, such as the annual resolution on Oceans and the Law of the Sea. Consequently, we dissociate from operative paragraph 12. With respect to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Sendai Framework, the Paris Agreement and climate change, as well as reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we refer you to the statement of the United States delivered on November 21.

Thank you.
