The images of the strike in Yemen that killed innocent civilians – including many children – are ‎appalling. The death of innocent civilians in war, under any circumstance, to include their use as human shields, is unacceptable. We call on the Saudi-led coalition to quickly complete their investigation into this incident, take appropriate accountability measures, and release the results publicly. All sides in this conflict must demonstrate their commitment to protecting civilian lives as required by international law. We strongly support the efforts of UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to convene the parties for talks in Geneva in September. The escalation of violence in Yemen makes these talks all the more urgent. We expect that the parties will engage the UN promptly and in good faith to find a political solution to this war.
