Statement by Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Liberia’s Upcoming Elections
This week, Liberia has a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to the democratic process and serve as an example in the region. Liberians know what is at stake. Liberia’s political leadership – and those who aspire to lead – must refrain from engaging in inflammatory rhetoric or supporting acts of violence or intimidation.
The United States and Liberia are two of the oldest continuous republics in the world and share a unique history paired with common democratic values. Our 201-year partnership is as strong as it is deep. The United States reaffirms its support for the principles of hope and freedom upon which Liberia was founded.
