Statement by the U.S. Mission to the United Nations on a Vote Called by the United States to Continue the Investigation of Chemical Weapons Use in Syr

November 15, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, the United States requested a vote at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, November 16, on its latest draft UN Security Council Resolution that would renew the mandate of the Joint Investigative Mechanism – the independent, technical group that is investigating the perpetrators of horrific chemical weapons attacks in Syria. There are many more instances of chemical weapons use in Syria that must be investigated.

The United States hopes the Security Council will stand united in the face of chemical weapons use against civilians and extend the work of this critical group. Not doing so would only give consent to such atrocities while tragically failing the Syrian people who have suffered from these despicable acts.
