FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

We congratulate Miroslav Lajčák, Foreign Minister of Slovakia, on his election as the 72nd President of the UN General Assembly. The United States looks forward to being a supportive partner to President-elect Lajčák when he begins his tenure in September, especially on important issues such as human rights and United Nations reform. We also thank current President Peter Thomson for his leadership over the last year.
