Statement on the Human Rights Situation in Burma

This morning the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Geneva delivered a clear message in remarks at an urgent session of the UN Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in Burma. The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva urged full respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, and rule of law in Burma. This comes days after the UN Security Council came together in New York to issue a strong statement in support of democracy in Burma. We stand with the people of Burma and will continue to use our renewed engagement in the international community to commit to human rights in Burma and press for an immediate return to democracy.
